I really enjoyed this middle grade story, high in emotions.
I appreciated how it dealt with gender expectations through the POV of a person whose gender regularly switches (Ash doesn't like to use a specific label for their gender) and a boy whose emotions can be overwhelming for him.
I guess the whole dog part and romance was sweet but clearly what shines here is more the characters feelings and how to overcome societal gender expectations to live truthfully and happily.

I must add a small detail I found a little disturbing about the audiobook: Daniel's voicea ctor sounded compter generated... And that through me off quite a bit at first, took some getting used to.
