I was given an eARC of King of Hell by the author - thank you so much!
Oh, you can destroy your closest companion in Heaven, fuck Lucifer in the blood of dead angles, connive and murder, but you can't bring yourself to fuck your subordinates. What a saint you are, Paimon! Such consistent standards.
King of Hell is a queer novella about Laurențiu, a vampire killed 30 years ago with a vendette, and Paimon, a King of Hell who is quite frankly growing a bit bored of Hell's consistent chaos. Together, they leave Hell to fulfil Laurențiu's drive for vengeance, and to relieve Paimon of his incessant boredom by murdering cannibals in a somewhat bizarre murderers-with-benefits situation.
I really enjoyed this fast-paced Romance murder story! While I'm not always the biggest fan of short, fast-paced fiction, this one just dragged me along on the fun, murderous ride. The characters are amazing, and their relationship, despite the book only taking up about 150 pages, worked really well. Maybe it's just because I have a weakness for queer murder-husbands but honestly, that's what I asked for and that's what I got, so can anyone really blame me ✨
If you're looking for queer revenge-murder times, complicated relationships being renegotiated verbally every once in a while, and undead found family, boy, do I have the book for you!
