My Survival: A Girl on Schindler's List by Rena Finder, Joshua M. Greene
4.0

I was sent a copy of this book from Scholastic Australia in exchange for an honest review.

My Survival: A Girl on Schindler’s list is a pure and emotional first-hand account from Rena Finder, a Holocaust survivor, and a girl who was lucky enough to find herself on the list of a man named Oskar Schindler.

Going into this memoir I knew it was going to be a heavy and emotional read, but even with such a sensitive story being told Rena Finder and co-writer, Joshua M. Greene, have found a tasteful way to share the upsetting details in this story, as well as educate other generations about the injustices that happened during the second World War.

The story was beautifully written, even going so far as to show the proper pronunciation of some German names, as a person who generally struggles pronouncing names I appreciated this so much and it made it easier to fall into the words without having to stop and think it.

My only issue with this book is that it felt like such a short read, I felt like I had only just started reading when I suddenly reached the acknowledgments and the photos at the end of the book. I would have loved to hear more stories from Rena’s time working in Oskar Schindler’s factory or stories from her time at the end of the war.

Rating 4 Stars - Really good, I would recommend reading it

Again, a huge thank you to the team at Scholastic Australia for sending me copy of this book, it was a beautiful story and a book I will be keeping on my shelf and rereading for years to come.

Happy Reading Everyone!
Jess xoxo
