libscote 's review for:
The Green Bicycle
by Haifaa al Mansour
At times, this is a hard read. As a white Christian feminist in the United States, it is hard to read about life in Ridyah Saudi Arabia, where woman cannot drive and are expected to be covered up whenever they leave the house. Reading this was educational about the way women feel they can rebel and where they can't. Wadjda doesn't fit in at school, constantly trying to earn money. Her parents are fighting, because her father is being pressured to take a second wife. Wadjda finds comfort in music. She grows over the course of the novel but still isn't perfect.
