When the Moon Hatched by Sarah A. Parker

I freaking loved this book. Period. It was such a fun read with a very interesting world.

I know I say this a lot, because I have a FMC type 🤣, but Raeve is very Aelin coded. Assassin, hidden memories, rude/agressive male love interest who is actually a cinnamon roll. This story gave all the ToG vibes but with all new creatures and a very different world.

You should read it if you were a fan of:
Throne of Glass
Spark of the Everflame
One Dark Window
Eragon
Serpent and the Wings of Night

My one warning, this book is VERY fantasy heavy. On a scale of 1 to learning a new language, we're at a 9 or 10. There is a very big info dump in the 4 page epilogue. From introducing gods, to creatures, to the world and its cities, it's a lot of information all at once paired with new terms for well establised things, i.e. 'the sun'. To the extent that the author breaks my one cardinal rule of keeping fantasy palatable, "keep the basics simple so they don't distract."

There is little to no need to change the basic words like bed, table, eating, and sleeping. Changing names for the passage of time is somewhat more acceptable, but it should not be jarring or confusing, and WtMH almost fails that test.

Just be aware of that going into the book. Info dumps and detailed fantasy is not for everybody and that's okay!

Happy reading!
