Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley
4.75
challenging emotional funny informative sad tense medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

The ending was masterful
Tied into themes while being subversive
And there's a moment
involving the blanket party
that just broke my heart for a minor character.
The characters stick in my head, especially the elders, grandmary and Lily.
The sense of place, i.e. on the jogs, when going from the US to Canada
Much better usage of grief than I find in mysteries generally
