I don't have too much to say about this book. I didn't love the first two, and this was kind of just a "finish the series" read. I mostly read it so I can read Six of Crows without missing anything I may have needed to know. My favorite characters were Genya, Zoya and Nikolai and I was happy to see them survive this thing and for Genya to recuperate from the Darkling's torture and happily take up work with Nikolai. The twist was interesting and I can see where hints of it may have been given throughout the other books but I have no real feelings for Mal so I kind of didn't care if he had to die. Some of the best scenes for me were the female comraderie and when Alina used her connection to the Darkling against him. I really feel in my bones that Nikolai was a better match for Alina. Especially with the third amplifier twist, I feel even more that she and Mal's connection was anything but romantic. That said, their ending seemed to fit nicely regardless of my opinion on the pairing.
