Brittney Morris does it again. SLAY was an amazing work, and THE COST OF KNOWING is as well. But for entirely different reasons. TCoK is about two brothers who lost both of their parents in a tragic car accident and are dealing with the aftermath: grief, anxiety, loneliness. But above all, this is a story about Black boyhood. About the joys, the fears, the racism, the pressure. I can’t say anything else without spoiling the amazing twists and realizations throughout the book. But trust me, it’s beautiful and sad and maddening. But it’s full of love and hope.
