tshepiso 's review for:
The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August
by Claire North
This book was just great in so many ways in loved everything about it.
The premise was interesting from the start but I must admit it was kind of difficult to get into for me. This was mainly because the writing was more mature that I usually read and the narritive voice was wordy to say the least.
I loved the characters in the book especially the titular Harry. It's acctually very rare for the main protagonist of a story to be my favorite character but Harry takes the cake. I loved reading from Harry's perspective, he was so intelligent and seeing him work through problems and find solutions and just generally do kick ass stuff was fascinating. I was so attached to him as a character I hollered every time he succeeded and was crushed when he failed. His thirst for knowledge and understanding was something I loved about him
The book also explores the themes of the story very well. It asked very thought provoking questions. I loved the Moral ambiguity that was explored with Vincent's character. I have always believed that any story that can get new rooting for the villan is a good one in my book. North does a great job in making a believable opposition to Harry with the reasoning behind all his "evil" acts being justifiable and it made so much sense I found myself really wanting to see the Quantum Mirror finished even though I knew it was destroying the world .
Okay, am I the only who slightly ships Vincent and Harry. But seriously their relationship was great, the way they're characters mirrored each other was stellar👌. The friendship North built with these characters was so well written It made Vincent's betrayal even more painful and Vincent's last line to a dying Harry was so impactful I'll find you, do you understand? I'll find you and keep you safe, no matter what happens. it shows how he cared about Harry and how he thought what he was doing was the best
The world building was so well done. The way North created such interesting facets to the word was amazing. All the interesting people we meet like Jenny, Phearson and Fidel Gussman were nicely explored
This book was great. Loved the world, loved the plot, loved the characters.
