i wasn’t sure what i was reading for most of this book - i think in a way even though this is supposed to be before the actual book this shouldn’t be read before the actual book. 
it adds backstory to characters that are most likely characters in the novel, but without real information about what’s going on and why this novella or short story was a bit of a strange read .

interesting but also   one of those reads that make very little sense until more is read. 

so my recommendation after starting with this book instead of the full novel? read the novel first. 
i am guessing that order makes more sense to really understand and appreciate this story.
