chantaal 's review for:
Through the Woods
by E.M. Carroll
I read 'His Face All Red' online back in 2010 and that fucking story has stuck with me through the years. It's not terrifying in an overt way, but more in a way that sort of sneaks up on you and strikes you when you think about it a year later and frantically try to search the web for that one comic you read a year ago and can't remember the title but you desperately want to re-read it now.
The companion stories in Through the Woods are just as terrifying and maybe a little better than His Face All Red. They're the sorts of stories that feel familiar, but Emily Carroll infuses her own unique voice into each one. Her color work is truly fucking inspired, and is the strength in these stories.
Fuuuuck, I'm going to be thinking about The Nesting Place FOREVER.
