Looking at the cover of this book you'd think it was a romance novel, but thankfully it is a much different book. We are introduced to Gemma, a young lady with powers to enter another realm, who is also trying to find acceptance in life. We get to watch her find friends and watch as her and her friends use and start to abuse the powers. By the end Gemma learns responsibility, and most importantly forgiveness. I really enjoyed this book overall, even if at times Gemma would submit to peer pressure a little too easily after just showing she had some bravado. Gemma's friends are also multi-layered with more story behind them than they initially let on. This was my favorite aspect of the book, watching people put on airs early, to see the truth seep out no matter how hard they tried to cover it up. It made characters in this book easily relatable. A very good start to this trilogy, that I look forward to continuing. 4.25 out of 5
