The Poppy War
by R.F. Kuang
dark
medium-paced
This was a really interesting read. I really loved getting to see the different characters, and the changes some of them went through. I loved the depth to Rin and how things weren't so black and white with her. I also loved getting to see her relationships with the other students change.
There were also some really good quotes like:
'“War doesn’t determine who’s right. War determines who remains.”'
We got to see a lot of the realities of war, especially with the violence in this book and how it was described.
I did find the pacing a bit slow at times, but overall, it was an interesting read. It was a bit of a dark read, so not really for you if you're looking for something light-hearted but I definitely think it is worth a read.
