Goldie Vance, Vol. 1
by Hope Larson
Set in a hotel in Florida in the early 1960s, the heroine of this comic is Goldie Vance, officially a valet but unofficially a detective. Most of her cases are fairly simple lost-item recoveries, but when an escaped German rocket scientist comes to stay, only to be kidnapped by unknown agents, Goldie suddenly finds a much bigger case in her lap that she's use to. This comic is well drawn, beautifully colored and has an endearing queer crush sub-plot, but I have no nostalgia for this particular era. I'd probably have been more invested in the story if it was set closer to the present day.
