There is a lot of really good information in this book, but the one thing that kept me from giving it 5 stars is the repetition of facts and anecdotes. Because this is a collections of interviews and speeches given at different places at different times to different audiences, some of the same topics are mentioned. Normally that wouldn't be an issue, but in such a short book, the same topics covered in three or four essays in a row becomes quite repetitive.
Otherwise, I did learn a lot and found the global view of incarceration interesting as a follow-up to The New Jim Crow, which focuses on the prison industrial complex just in the US. The parallels drawn between the post-Civil War US, Palestine and South Africa were very eye-opening
