I’ve had this book for 8 years and haven’t read it until now. WHY? My first book by Taylor was Strange the Dreamer, which I loved. It is so beautifully written. I was hoping to get more of that here and I did!

It was interesting to me that this book is kind of split. The first part of the book is about the present and then the last half is all the past. I actually liked that about this because I was so intrigued about Karou’s past. I’m so glad she didn’t just skim over it and gave us detailed accounts of the past.

I really loved Karou! I loved her in the past and present… I guess… kinda same thing. She’s funny and so fierce. I mean.. is she scared of anything? Also, I really want blue hair right now!!

Also, I have an amazing quote.. I actually highlighted it TWICE in the book (it’s mentioned twice). Hope is really so powerful!! ❤

“Hope? Hope can be a powerful force. Maybe there’s no actual magic in it, but when you know what you hope for most and hold it like a light within you, you can make things happen, almost like magic.”

Akiva.. our tortured angel! I did find the repetition of how amazingly good looking he is annoying. I get it. You don’t have to say it 100 times. Anyways, I do wish that we got a bit more from him in this book. He seemed a bit closed off to me, understandably, but I wanted more. I’m hoping in the next book!

Taylor really has an amazing way with words. This book is so well written! The detail she puts into her world makes it feel like a picture is unfolding in front of your eyes. This was such a fast paced book too and I found myself so immersed into the story.

Funny thing.. I borrowed this from overdrive to read on my kindle because I can’t do Ipad lighting now. I was so into this book and didn’t realize that it ended at 80%, not 100%!!! I was thinking I had all this book left and BAM the ending!! What a cliffhanger!

I’m so glad that I finally started this series. I now understand why it was recommended by so many people. I can’t wait to start the next book!
