OMG!!! I need a sequel! More on that later

The Feed is a love story wrapped up in sci-fi, techno, and commercials. In a future world, where computers are integrated into our beings at birth, the Feed is life. You are never alone. You can have almost anything at a thought. But what of the price?

Titus is any normal popular kid. Hopping a shuttle to spring break on the Moon. Violet is a home schooled teen, for once wanting to belong. A standard setup for teen novels, but this one is much better done than most. The moon is a bit passe. It’s over. It’s no longer cool. The gravity barely works, and it's so run down and old. It's a fun thing to slum on vacation. That is until a party goes haywire. Hackers, corrupt the feeds of those they touch at the party, causing Feed paralysis. But for Violet, it causes much more. It causes irreparable damage, that will affect her for the rest of her life.

What makes this title stand out is the vision of the future world. Take for example a farm. It’s full of meat, raw and oozing, blood flowing through the marble. Lesions are common, and some even find them sexy. Oceans are so poisoned you can't go into the water and have to wear a special decontamination suit to play in the sand. Reading is uncommon, and writing even rarer. Who needs those skills when the feed is directly in your head? When you can look something up with a thought? Turns out, once you have the feed you can no longer live without it. It takes over the normal functions of the nerves and processes of your body. So it’s not just a communication tool, but a function of the body.

There is so much to talk about in this book, that I would love to teach it. Most of the kids I work with would probably be more glued to the Fault in Our Stars type story of Titus and Violet. While I would want to explore Violet's thoughts about who is actually being Fed with the the Feed. The reason I want a sequel is to see how the legions turn out. In our world people cannot live without skin. What is happening with the black sludge that seems to cover Africa. And the corporations. Don't get me started on the corporations.

This book is so good. It gives you so much to think about. Not just the love story that is at its core, but the world of our future. Would we want to live in that world? And how far off is it?
