The Candle Palace
by Devney Perry
*** 4.5 stars
sara foster is a nurse working in a hospital burn unit in spokane, washington. after returning from a less than relaxing vacation, she gets assigned a new patient milo. milo phillips is recovering from an explosion that left his body covered in burns. the pain is unlike anything he’s ever experienced and so is the guilt. he’s miserable, angry, and empty, until sara walks into his room. the two are immediately taken with each other, but can't be together due to hospital policy. they can't seem to stay away from each other and fall harder for each other each day, but what will happen when milo has to return to jamison valley, montana?
devney perry has slowly but surely became on of my favorite authors this year. when i decided to read through her backlist from the beginning (jamison valley), i was excited to see where it all began. i love devney perry's ability to craft small towns in such a way that they feel like home each time you return. the candle palace, in particular, takes place mainly outside of prescott, but by the end when you return to it, it's like a warm hug. i truly had such a good experience reading the candle palace. milo and sara have a love story that while it was difficult and painful to start you knew that if they had to go through it all again they would. this novella was stunning!! please read this series!!
