Where Butterflies Wander
by Suzanne Redfearn
This just wasn't for me. The multiple povs and short chapters made it an easier and interesting read but I wasn't into it as much as I hoped. I liked that even though there were multiple povs, they each felt developed as their own type of character. I was reminded of Kya from Where the Crawdads Sing and Agatha from the live action Beauty and the Beast and the surrounding people around them. It's an interesting book with a good theme; just not for me. There were a few quotes that stood out to me which I loved (see below).
~~
"I'm fat," she said plainly.
I reared back. "You are? Says who?"
"The scale. The mirror."
"And the scale and mirror spoke to you and said, 'You're fat'?" I shook my head. "I think it's time to get a new scale and mirror."
It's easy to cast stones when you're not the one being asked to make the sacrifice.
Perhaps all of us are not who we seem, each of us altering the narrative to portray nobler versions that make us appear better than we are.
anger is a wasted emotion, more detrimental to the bearer than the target.
