Comfort Me with Apples
by Catherynne M. Valente
This had A LOT of potential to be a thought-provoking look at what religious men believe women should (and shouldn’t be), but it ended up falling short (for me personally) due to its shorter page length. I would’ve loved to see this story expanded into a full length novel so the story could grow in more menacing and dark ways. However, I do think that even though this story was short that the author did a wonderful job at world building, making you care about Sophie, and creating a compelling overall concept.
