ros_lanta 's review for:
Starter Villain
by John Scalzi
I went into this book hoping for a quirky and fun read, and that's exactly what I got. It's light, entertaining and satirises supervillain tropes (with cats, and a volcano lair) but it isn't laugh out loud funny. There's also a fair amount of social commentary, especially when it comes to billionaires.
Perhaps unsurprisingly the cats are one of the high points of the book - though my personal favourite might be the dolphins, who swear liberally and are determined to unionise.
It's an odd book, and probably not one of Scalzi's best, but I had a good time with it and I'm glad I picked it up.
