abbie_ 's review for:
The Making of Gabriel Davenport
by Beverley Lee
I finished Beverly Lee's 'The Making of Gabriel Davenport' last night and absolutely bloody loved it!
.
The plot follows Gabriel Davenport as he is torn from his normal family life by a monstrous evil force. I try to never give too much of a book's plot away because I think it takes away from the reading experience, but there's a host of supernatural beings and dark events that will suck you in from the first page! I started reading it at night, alone in my room, and was legitimately frightened - Bev is SO GOOD at creating that tense atmosphere that just crawls all over your skin.
.
Beverly's narrative voice is GORGEOUS, in case that wasn't obvious by how quickly I flew through this book! It's filled with eerily beautiful imagery and phrases like 'Panic scoured her veins, dragging thorns of terror in its wake' had the word-nerd in me heart eyes-ing all over the place.
.
I love the characters as well, my faves so far are Gabe himself, Clove, and Olivia - I love a feisty female character, oh yes I do! Seriously can't wait for the sequel, as Bev left us with THAT ending.
