She Who Became the Sun
by Shelley Parker-Chan
TW: death, starvation, mentions of cannibalism, sex, misogyny, slavery, blood, mutilation, ableism
A really enjoyable and well fleshed out tale of fate, survival, sheer willpower, and identity. As a non-binary person, Zhu's experience with gender hit me quite deeply. To be honest I enjoyed Ouyang's story the most. He was so deliciously complicated, and I honestly loved him.
