A Heart So Fierce and Broken

A Heart So Fierce and Broken is the second book in the Cursebreakers series and follows Grey, the previous guardsman to prince Rhen and is now in hiding because he is the only one who knows about the identity of the other heir. We also follow the perspective of Lia Mara, the first-born daughter of Karis Luran (the queen who invaded Emberfall in the first book). Lia Mara wants peace between their kingdoms.
There were several things that didn’t work with me in this sequel, sadly considering how much I enjoyed the first book. For me there was not enough groundwork for where the characters ended up, and other characters that we cared for and knew from the first book, we don’t even get proper reasons for why they do what they do because we are not with them anymore. The romance here was rushed and where the story ended, I still sit here and question why. I want to see where this story goes, and I do enjoy parts of it. I do go into this in depth a lot more in my review, but overall it was fun, though very frustrating as well. 3/5 stars.
