I'm new to the thriller genre so I wasn't sure what to expect. Well, not so much new, but usually its just Stephen King books and they are just a different vibe.

So I started this book and was a bit annoyed with Fern. It takes a while to get settled into her head. Later I realized

it was necessary for something to be "wrong" with Fern so you start the first half of the book on the wrong foot

. I was halfway in when I started feeling that something was off. It was also the point where I was like how is this a thriller?

In the end I'm still not sure if it was the thriller that I wanted it to be. But with my family I'm not sure if I have a realistic view of what is horrible. I have an ostracized aunt that is very much like Rose with whom I have had the pleasure of speaking for a few months last year, but I cut myself from that dynamic swiftly.
