When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she knows it isn’t love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.
Colleen Hoover is known for her twists and this one had a couple. I know they were supposed to be heartbreaking and emotional, but I found them kinda funny... oops.

i had this at 4 stars, changed it to 3 because i realized i was clouded by the smut.
EDIT 5/25/22:
i’m coming in to add this to my review of Ugly Love months after i’ve read it because i’ve seen so many TikToks about this book that make me irrationally angry. so here i am, venting about this book.

EDIT 5/25/22:
i’m coming in to add this to my review of Ugly Love months after i’ve read it because i’ve seen so many TikToks about this book that make me irrationally angry. so here i am, venting about this book.
one of the most “heartbreaking” moments in this book is when Miles calls Tate by the wrong name during coitus. Then Tate realizes that she will “…never have his past, because [Rachel] has it.” let me remind you that THE ONLY RULES of their arrangement was to not ask about the past and to not expect a future. MEANING, you have NO claim to the past or future. Not only that, but WHY WOULD SHE EVER HAVE HIS PAST??? THAT SHIT OBVIOUSLY WOULD BELONG TO HIM AND RACHEL. WHAT DO YOU MEAN? WHY DO YOU WANT A PART OF HIM THAT LOVES SOMEONE ELSE? WHY WOULDN’T YOU WANT A FUTURE? this would’ve been a lot more impactful if it was implied that Rachel owns his past, and that means she will also own his future. not only that, a person doesn’t owe all of themself to you because you love them, much less a part of their life where they spent it with someone else they loved. it is completely their choice, and Miles has made it abundantly clear that he’s not ready to give anyone anything. (SOMEBODY EXPLAIN THE LOGIC HERE PLEASE)
another thing i want to mention is the rampant amount of hate Rachel gets, as if Miles didn’t go through the same thing, but they don’t hate him. Both had different methods of grieving and Rachel’s was to remove herself from the situation. Miles was to take some time, then talk through it with Rachel. Only Rachel got to get over their grief. IT IS NOT HER JOB TO HELP SOMEONE ELSE WHEN SHE WAS SO BROKEN HERSELF. once she got better, it was in no way her job to seek out Miles and “fix” him. Miles didn’t even try. he literally went celibate for years instead of talking over his grief.
As for Tate being so betrayed by Miles, she was aware of the situation the entire time. Miles made his boundaries very clear, and Tate refused to follow them. Tate knew what she was getting into, and rather than remove herself from the situation or reevaluate her feelings, she chose to force Miles to see her POV.
honestly my overall thoughts are Tate<Miles<Rachel
lastly, the “break up” that occurs 80% of the way into the book is such a cliche. it happens all the time. and I JUST NEED SOMEONE TO DO IT WELL. PLEASE. it is never done well, but i think IT CAN BE.
this book alone is 3-4 stars, but with CoHo fans, it goes down to 1-2 stars for me. luckily, i don’t rate it based on other people’s opinions, so it’s staying at 3 stars… for now.
