Among the Beasts & Briars
by Ashley Poston
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/ 4
This book is a dark coming-of-age fairy tale with lots of magic and monsters. It has that classic fairy tale vibe that I really like. I just expected it to be a little bit darker after reading what it was about. Yes there’s monsters and a good storyline, but I expected a bit more. This didn’t make it any less of an enjoyable book. Quite the opposite, it was an easy and enjoyable read for me!
I really liked the world and the storyline overall. I like how Cerys was a gardeners daughter but so incredibly loyal to her loved ones and I loved fox with his humour and the bear is just awesome. The bond between the characters really shines. I felt like the ending was a little bit rushed, I had hoped that it was written a bit slower like the rest of the book.
The extra scenes after the acknowledgements gives me a bit of hope for a second book. Not necessarily with Cerys and Fox but with the other characters in the book.
I’ve never read anything by Ashley Poston before but I’ll definitely check out her other works after this one.
