The Boyfriend
by Freida McFadden
3.5 if I’m feeling generous
- this was almost a DNF. The audiobook narrators sound like prepubescent teens. Considering that for the present timeline, they were supposed to be adults, they could have sounded a bit more adult…
- the twist was typical Freida McFadden. This is both good and bad. After so many books, it’s just becoming predictable.
- the writing felt lazy. So many of the little twisty moments that were meant to shock us were answered with the stupidest explanations. I won’t go into details because of spoilers but the lazy writing made the twist feel even more predictable.
- can we please have female characters who are not incredibly naive? I found myself rolling my eyes so much over the characters and the writing.
