This one boring I afternoon I asked my best mate to go to the movies with me, so we could save eachother from boredom. Before our movie started, we went to take a walk by the bookstore, ya know, look lovingly at books we already read and with the flame of desire towards the ones we still don't have money to buy.
But we were stopped in the middle of our walk by some girl my mate knew, not wanting to cock block or anything, I grabbed the first book on the "just in" shelf and sat on one of the couches to flip throught.
Oh boy how glad I am to have done that.
The book, as you may have pressumed, was The 5th Wave.
First we have this little list saying what were the first four wave, and you go all holy flipping shit this is bad, what was the 5th one??? Of course you'll only learn that by the end of the book.
And then we have this tidbit called Intrusion: 1995. It's just a page, but it got me so hooked, and it sent me in a reading frenzi. Meaning: About 5 hours after I got out of the cinema, I had finished this book. I didn't sleep that night, I read nonstop, it's not a small book, but the pacing and plot are in a way, that I literally was unable to put it down until I finished it.
We are presented to Cassie, we meet Cassie and her fears, Cassie and her bravery and resilience. We learn about her love and devotion to her family. We learn about her school crush and her first love. We are provided with one of the best quotes I have read in a long time:.
We also meet Sam and Nugget, Zombie and a little bit of Ben, Ringer, Dumbo, Teacup, Poundcake and the almighty Vosch. Great characters that stand on their own.
The writing, oh my oh my, the writing!! It is beautiful! This book went effortlessly into my favorites shelf. I've been recommending this non-stop to all of friends, to all of the people ever. It is a young adult, distopian, romance, a genre often frowned upon, but it is brilliant and extremely believable at that. I'm not one to cry at sappy-sad scenes, I cried in this book over the beautiful, gutting things, that how it is.
The plot twists, cliff hanger, pace, character development, hell, this book convinced me. Not sure about what, but it sure did.
