The Library of Legends
by Janie Chang
This was my first dive into historical fiction! And I don't think I could have picked a better book to introduce me to the genre. So a big thank you to Janie Chung for writing this novel, The Library of Legends, and to Book of the Month for having it available! Also in part to the Magical Readathon for giving me the perfect prompt for my Arithmancy course to read this book for. (Head over to the website for a really fun readathon that is so much fun and lasts throughout April!)
A bit of the synopsis: "China, 1937. When Japanese bombs begin falling on the city of Nanking, nineteen-year-old Hu Lian and her classmates at Minghua University are ordered to flee. Lian and a convoy of students, faculty and staff must walk 1,000 miles to the safety of China’s western provinces, a journey marred by the constant threat of aerial attack. And it is not just the refugees who are at risk; Lian and her classmates have been entrusted with a priceless treasure: a 500-year-old collection of myths and folklore known as the Library of Legends."
When I read the full synopsis of this novel it had all the makings of a book I would love -
