The Bone Witch
by Rin Chupeco
A month after finishing this, I'm finally going to write the review
Let me just start by saying that I only picked this up because my roommate dared me too; we read the description together and it sounded so bad and she likes to see me suffer
I HATED THIS BOOK. SO MUCH. It only got two stars because the ending was kind of interesting, and I liked a couple of the side characters (the designer dude and the kid who wanted to be an asha but couldn't because of sexism. I liked those two a lot and I still can't remember their names, that's how boring this book was). If not for those two factors, this The Bone Witch easily would have gotten one star.
I will mention the one thing that I loved about this book. Just one thing. And it's the story lines of the two side characters I mentioned above. I really liked that Chupeco talked about that issue, of these two men wanting to do pursue something that's seen as "feminine" and not being allowed to do so because of it. The scene where tea is trying to get the dude who makes the hua's to make one for her friend, and someone mentions his struggles in becoming the best designer anyone had ever seen, that part actually made me cry. It was so sweet
Aside from that, everything else pretty much sucked. It took me four months to read this. FOUR MONTHS. IT WAS THAT BORING. There was barely a plot. Very few characters had any sort of development, the world building wasn't very good, the plot was waaaay too slow paced. Everything about this was bad. I definitely won't be reading the second book
