Lore
by Alexandra Bracken
Greek mythology set in modern day New York, a dangerous game of cat and mouse, and one girl waring between survival and vengeance. This book WAS AMAZING! When I first heard about it I knew I had to read it and oh boy did this not disappoint! It met my expectations and went far above. It was a bloody good time! The story is set in a world where Gods and Goddesses are hunted by their line, as by killing a god you receive their power. These “hunts” occur every seven years and Lore, who’s entire family was killed, has managed to disappear from the hunt until now. With the fresh arrival of her childhood friend whom she presumed had died, a dying goddess coming to her with an offer to help her achieve vengeance against her family’s murderer, Lore is thrown right back into the world she left behind. This book is gritty and brutal and I loved every second of it. Lore is a wonderful protagonist, she takes no shit and isn’t afraid to get rough and bleed for what she wants. She was strong and yet had a heart full of grief for the wrongs not only she suffered, but what had been done to her family. I adored Castor, Miles, Van, and even Iro, and oh boy don’t get me started on Athena and Hermes. This book has a strong theme of family, the lengths we go for them and to return to them, and in the end, what it means to stay strong in a world that keeps trying to push you. Lore was a kick ass protagonists who I fell in love with, and her story, this story, was a wonderful read. I couldn’t put the book done and I honestly need more books set in this world ( crossing my fingers). So yes, please go read this freaking amazing book and fall in love with the legend that is Lore.
