And The Ocean Was Our Sky
by Patrick Ness
Wow! The art inside and outside of this novel is breathtaking. I fell in love with this story the moment I heard of it's inception. Seeing the world from a whale's perspective, the ocean becoming the sky, I was hooked (honestly no pun intended there).
I loved how quickly I acclimated to this narrative, and how steadily I flowed through the prose. I finished this novel in about an hour and anticipate this being a book I pick up whenever I need to cleanse the palate.
This story was dark, heartbreaking, and oddly introspective. With the art included as visual aid, this depressing story was somehow made beautiful. I'm genuinely impressed.
