I might be biased because I've seen multiple adaptations before finally reading the original source material, but I feel like this story is one of those few stories that actually works better as an adapted work. I personally found myself getting a little bit bored while reading this, but I will say that the descriptive language really was phenomenal and I can see why its been the inspiration for many adapted works.
