A Flicker in the Dark
by Stacy Willingham
When Chloe was a child, several teenage girls went missing from her small Louisiana town. Before the summer ended, her father was arrested and convicted as a serial killer, responsible for the deaths of six teenage girls. Now, on the eve of the 20th anniversary of her father’s convictions, murders of young girls start happening again in Chloe’s new town of Baton Rouge. The murders have eerie similarities to Chloe’s father’s, leaving Chloe to grapple with her paranoia and figure out who the new murderer is before it’s too late.
This book was highly hyped up and while I thought it was overall a good and engrossing thriller, I predicted the ending pretty early on. I also feel like the unreliable narrator who uses substances to distract from their past trauma is becoming a bit of a trope for the genre. The book definitely had a great pace and kept my interest throughout. 3.5 stars rounded up!
