The Girl in the Painting
by Caleb Crowe
I definitely think I may be in a minority with this review considering the rating this book does have. Ultimately I felt this novel was too drawn out. I skimmed the last 20% because it was obvious what was going to happen and I wanted to finish the book and move on. The beginning set the stage nicely for a small town mystery thriller, and I enjoyed the first parts of the book until the FMC made an unbelievable and honestly downright unrealistic move towards the main male love interest. The whole time she was saying how she would never do a thing like what she did... and 99% of women would wholeheartedly agree that she would not have done it. It was needlessly putting the character in a position to be wrapped up in the circumstances of the book. This could have all reasonably happened without the DV as an excuse to drive the 'Thriller' component of the story.
