Heck: Where the Bad Kids Go
by Dale E. Basye
Sometimes kids die. In this case death was made possible by an exploding marshmallow bear. Kids with spotty life records wind up in Limbo: the first circle of heck. Marlo is an older sister and she is B.A.D. She steals, lies, cheats, and plays mean tricks on her brother Milton. Milton is the opposite of Marlo. He likes books and rules, and always does what he is told. He ends up in Limbo because of his sister. Limbo is under the control of Bee “Elsa” Bub and other historically mean/evil characters. Many of these cast members would only have meaning to adults and not the 3rd and 4th grade readers this books seems aimed at. This book has come comedic moments, and many kids will want to continue the series, but I doubt it will become classic literature.
