This book was so cute! Darcy and Elle meet on a blind date and do not get along at all--it is, frankly, a disaster of an evening. But then Darcy lies to her brother and says they hit it off to get him off her back about dating and setups, and when Elle confronts her about it they decide to fake date for a while to placate the people in their lives. Elle is a free spirit and astrologer who definitely is looking for love and her perfect person while Darcy is more closed off after a painful breakup. Both women are surprised when they find they enjoy each other's company and their fake dating doesn't seem as fake anymore.
Reread 2025: this is my third time reading this book and I still enjoyed it! Darcy and Elle have a terrible first date but then end up in a fake dating situation. Elle is looking for a soulmate, Darcy says she doesn't believe in love anymore after a bad breakup. Elle is a free spirit, Darcy is more regimented. Elle is an astrologer, Darcy is an actuary. They're opposites, but the way they fall for each other and support one another is lovely. My only complaint is that it has the annoying Hallmark-esque ending where they reunite post 3rd act break up, they kiss, and it's the end (unlike hallmark, we got spice earlier). The good news is this is first in a trilogy so we'll see these people again.
