Cinder
by Marissa Meyer
I do love a good retelling.
I love to see how much an author veers from the original story, how much they keep or slightly change. Cinder, book 1 in the Lunar Chronicles, was based on Cinderella. The evil stepmom, 2 step sisters, a prince, a fairy godmother, and a shoe. In this story the fairy godmother was a sassy android - ~~she better get a new body~~ - and the missing shoe was, in fact, Cinder’s entire foot.
*************
“Well, I’m sure I could have come home faster, except someone stole my foot.”
“Sorry. I seem to have lost my gumption when my foot fell off during a live feed.”
**************
The reimagining of the dropped slipper I didn’t know I *needed*
