The One That I Want
by Piper Sheldon
I was of course so excited for this next book in this series that I have loved so much so far. And the fact that the musical it was kind of retelling was Grease was awesome too as I love that movie/play so much! In fact, some of my favorite parts of the book were when the dialogue matched up to basically song lyrics from the musical. Shortly into the book I was singing the whole Summer Nights song as the things the characters were asking and answering with were basically the lyrics to that song.
Now overall it wasn’t an exact retelling of the story. I mean there were obviously a lot of scenes that weren’t at all something that would have been in a high school movie. This of course had a lot more depth to the characters as well as a lot more sexy times!
But it did have some of the best scenes from the movie incorporated in little ways. I especially loved the finale with the 50s themed clothing. Also there were a lot of Green Valley references and locations that I’ve come to know and love from the whole series and books set there. One thing I did wonder about though, or maybe just made me think, was that the Outward Bound type of experience company that Sanders (Sandy Olsson) ran kind of is the same or seems the same, as the company that a character in the Karla Sorensen series is creating in Green Valley. I feel like those characters should get together somehow or else they will be competing. But hey, maybe I just read all of these books and expect them to all connect.
Another fun musical retelling, but lots of depth and emotional background for both characters. And I do love how every single story so far we get a little more history to love about Jethro Winston for how he tried to fix his mistakes in the past.
