Well this was disappointing because I expected something along the lines of The Queen of the Tearling, which I really liked. This book dragged by and could have used some more editing. It seems that each plot line was only a set-up for one reason and then would fade away. The castle was attacked yet it only provides a reason for Sophia to be away when she discovers her magic. The Queen's only use to the story was to spark jealousy that was quickly gotten over. Too much time was spent on the insta-love of the relationship instead of the magic and danger. Also, way too many parties. Supposedly a large number of the court died in the attack, but there are three parties in one week.

I could go on and on. I may read the next book in the hopes that there's more action now that the first book has laid the groundwork.
