My Today by H.J. Bellus
4.0

ARC received for honest review

My Today is book 2 in HJ Bellus' "My Way" series, and though I have not read book 1 (My Forever and Now) but this in now way detracted from this story, and I will be going back to read it in the future.

Lacey has had a terrible childhood, and now noone tells her what to do or who she should be. She is rude, crude and tattooed - and I love the hell out of her! If she was real she would be my best friend.

Tripp is her best friend's cousin by marriage. He has also had tragedy in his past, and has dealt with it with drugs and women. He has lost his dream, his career, and is now working on his cousin' farm, to lick his wounds and get himself straight

After a drunken hook up after her best friend's wedding, their lives change for the better.

Lacey and Tripp together are a hot mess. Friends with benefits? No, they were never just that, there was always the simmering undercurrent of attraction, lust, sexual tension whenever they were in each other's orbit.

They are both still in their own personal hell, but being by each other's side, they might just make it through. Maybe not unburnt, but they might make it through.

I love love love the interactions between Lacey and best friend Milly. These are my kind of girls. They aren't prissy well behaved girls. They drink, the act up, the swear like sailors. They are also each other's fiercest defenders and critics.

Tripp and Cree are so close, and the only family that Tripp really has.

Tripp's father - what a dick! Horrible horrible man.

This story shows how family is who you choose to have in your life, who loves you no matter what. That you do not have to share blood to be family.

The scene stealer in My Today is Annie. 7 years old, snickers addicted Annie. She is fantastic and has everyone, especially Tripp, wrapped around her little finger.

As messed up as Lacey and Tripp are, they are perfect for each other.

This is the first book I have read from HJ Bellus, and I can be sure that it will not be the last. Her writing style was refreshing, and though you read the synopsis and think "oh this kind of story again", it was deliciously different to what I thought I was going to get.

There was a twist in this tale which had me doing a double take as I first read it.

I will go back and read book one, and am looking forward to book 3
