The House in the Pines by Ana Reyes
4.0
dark mysterious slow-paced

I went into this book pretty blind. I knew that it was about Maya and her return to her hometown after her best friend dropped dead for apparently no reason.

It alternated from past to present, but there isn't a clear indication at the beginning of the chapters, you kind of just have to catch it. I honestly loved that! It made the story flow more smoothly for what it was and kept me wholly interested.

I thought that the ending was something paranormal or supernatural regarding Maya's ancestry on her dad's side of the family. The ending was still super shocking and made me real-life terrified because that could happen to almost anyone and how would you know? How would you make everyone believe after all these years, you weren't crazy at all?

Frank was a creep from the beginning, and the only thing I didn't like about the ending was that we never find out what happened to him. This was a great, mysterious read that gave me a new, very real, fear ðŸ«
