I picked this up on a whim during Mario Day (Mar. 10th) and while the story itself is clearly aimed at kids, it’s hard not to read this book and smile. The Mario Bros. series is a great fit for a cartoony and colorful book like this, and it’s fun to see the bros in more expressive and dynamic poses. Everyone gets some time to shine, but it’s Princess Peach that really stood out to me! Nintendo has only recently started expanding on her as a character and using her in roles other than damsel in distress, so I was expecting an old comic like this to be a more traditional take on her character. But lo and behold! Peach is a charmingly ambitious and adventurous character who, instead of waiting around, decides to break out of Bowser’s Castle herself and from that moment onward COMPLETELY steals the show. Give me more of this Peach Nintendo! This collection is a wonderful romp from start to finish and a must own for Mario fans new and old.
