It was one thing to know he was smart and handsome and charming, a good cop, important in his own way. It was another to swallow the bullshit whole and believe every bit of it. He wondered why he hadn’t seen that before, why it had seemed so easy to believe all the good things people said about him and ignore what really mattered, and he wondered why it was different now.
the absolute best thing about a series this long, about being with these characters through all the batshit crazy stuff they go through, is how much room they have to grow and change and, yeah, make the same mistakes, but also learn, and fall even more in love and learn to be together and damn, bro. idek if you can love so much as much as hazard and somers do, supposedly yes, but i can't imagine loving that insanely, like this other gem somers whips out at some point:
“Ree, sweetheart, I love you. Kind of . . . obsessively, maybe. And I know I’m a catch. I know I’m the best thing that’s ever happened to you. Ever happened to anyone, as far as that goes.”
“Turn it down a notch,” Hazard growled.
this book also had north and shaw showing up and they're both... a lot. i know i'm going to read their series eventually, but i still don't know if i'll like them, like the way shaw was carrying on was annoying, but then the hug he gave somers... bro is just starved for attention, all the damn time, and this book in particular helped me see more of him, instead of just being annoyed by his stuff, lol.
we're all a little fckd up in our own way and i think that's beautiful.
oh, and on my past review i said i was trying to stop rushing through books, but guess who is still steady on their bullshit??? read until late and finished yes another book in less than 24h. i am not as well adjusted as i lead people to believe, lol.
