This author has a fantastic way to make the magical realism utterly magical and leaves it open to interpretation of the reader at the same time. 

she also writes incredibly wonderful mother/daughter moments! 

in general her writing is just wonderful. 

i am always a bit surprised that her writing works for me since it always has this magical realism aspect but she never explains the hows or whys. 

I am normally someone that wants i to know and understand fantastic elements in stories down to the smallest details. and this doesn’t happen with this author -at least not in the three things i read by her so far! 

she leaves it completely unexplained and in this story it even very much this mystery of is the mother actual magical or not? 

i really enjoyed this.
