To Ilaris, In Desperation
by Amanda Ross
I really enjoy the creativity, cleverness and research within this book.
While the surface story is witches v vampires, the second instalment featuring Mercury Amell, really upped the political tension of the book and I really respect and admire it.
Mercury is now the leader of a powerful movement that is against that of the witches council and members of his family. His struggles with this is written so incredibly well, that while you want to be on Merc’s side (and are a lot of the time) the opposing views show how reckless he is/can be, which makes for great tension, conflict in the novel and in yourself as a reader.
Amanda has done so well with this contemporary work that exposes the racial tension and injustice that is oh so prevalent in the world. I highly recommend this series and this writer for such an interesting and thought provoking work.
