Mary Poppins by P.L. Travers
3.0

Despite her Victorian style tight bun, Poppins is clearly making the children's lives magical, fun, and wonderfully weird. I appreciate that Poppins is left as a mysterious figure, who comes and goes as she pleases. She is also very human, and seems to teach the children the way of the world and protect them in the more dangerous situations. There are hints here and there that Mary is capable of being gentle and motherly, so it's up to the reader to decide whether the more abrasive behaviour is just a mask.

I didn't exactly fall in love with this, but a fun read nevertheless.
