gigi “gisele” graham and luke “prom king” ryder
the sunshine girl and the grumpy, quiet “bad boy”. i adored gigi and ryder, separately and especially together. them both being hockey players was so hot. and most importantly, both of their character development was so good to read and lowkey made me really emotional.
the lack of plot in this book would’ve been more of an issue if gigi and ryder’s relationship wasn’t so fucking wholesome. their relationship was so mature and the communication between them was such a breath of fresh air. this story was more centered on the natural development of their relationship and watching them navigate the good, bad, and ugly, rather some big plot that requires a resolution. also, the found family trope in this was a win for me.
my biggest issue with this story isn’t the fact that there wasn’t really a plot, but the fact that gigi kept trying to placate her ex’s feelings for so long, even after he cheated on her and lied about it. like girl, STAND UP! why are you letting a man dictate your life!? not only that, ryder becoming friends with said ex too was so?? that’s weird! why offer redemption arcs for cheaters? booooo!
other than that, not only am i really looking forward to the upcoming book – because i already know diana and shane are gonna be so fun and i see the vision with beckett and will – but i’m also now interested in reading the previous series that led to this one.
