This book really manages to shatter your heart and turn your stomach and for that I've given it five stars. It's been a while since I've read historical fiction like this and I'd forgotten how emotive it can be. The imprisonment of the Baltic people is something I knew nothing of before reading this and I can imagine that the repercussions of this hidden atrocity is really damaging on later generations.

I definitely recommend this as an educative tool but would warn people that, as you can imagine, it's quite horrific in it's explanations of life in Soviet labour camps
